I was on a call with an online coaching client the other day and she asked, “What are 3 healthy things you do every day that you can’t live without?” I thought that was a very good question! So I’ve rounded up a list of little healthy hacks I implement each day that I believe make my life a little bit more on the healthy side.
-
Eat veggies with breakfast.
We all know it, vegetables are good for us! But at the end of the day, how many servings have you had? Probably not enough (and me neither, sometimes!). This is why I have my eggs alongside some sautéed kale or steamed broccoli, it makes me feel better knowing I’ve gotten veggies into my diet before 9am and is better for our bodies too. Win win!
-
Sprinkle collagen into your morning coffee or tea.
What the heck is collagen? I’m sure you’ve seen tons of people talking about it lately. It’s a protein that our bodies rely on to repair bones, tendons and connective tissue while also ensuring the health and vitality of our skin, nails, and hair. As we age we produce less collagen and this affects our joints, skin, hair, bones etc. The collagen I use is a unique combination of amino acids and naturally derived from pasture-raised and grass-fed beef protein. I love it because it doesn’t have a taste and dissolves right into hot or cold liquid plus it’s an easy way to consume extra protein! Many people notice the elasticity of their skin improves as well as the strength of hair and nails. It supports bone and joint health and also helps with gastrointestinal issues. I usually have 1 scoop in my tea in the morning and another in my shake later in the day.

Get up and move your body!
If you’re like me or some of my clients, you may be seated at a desk for majority of the day. This makes our hips, backs and necks get super tight and stiff. I either set an alarm on my phone or tell myself that when I’m done with a certain task (writing this post, for example) I need to get up and do 15 body weight squats. Sometimes I’ll even take the dogs for a quick walk around the block. Two clients of mine are at their desks 9-5 so three times each day, they get up and do a lap around the office or some quick squats. At first they were worried about looking silly standing at their desk doing a mini workout but why the heck should we waste our precious time caring what others think? Also, some of their coworkers started joining in and now they all get a good laugh when they stand up to do their morning squats (some while they’re on the phone with customers!). So stand up and get the blood flowing for just a few seconds. Your body will thank you.

Have a glass of water upon wakening.
This is a very easy hack! We sleep for 7-8 hours (hopefully). That’s a long time to go without hydration! Keep a glass of water on your bedside table and drink it right when you wake up. I always feel like I’m doing my body a big favor with this one.

Make your afternoon snack a protein shake.
Many of us get hungry in the afternoons, myself included. I almost always have this shake (see below for recipe!) just maybe not on the weekends. It’s delicious, filling, and you get some added protein, collagen and veggies, woohoo! If you aren’t able to make a shake in the afternoon due to being in the office, that’s totally fine. Have the ingredients ready to go each evening, blend it quickly before you leave in the morning and keep it in the fridge at work!
1 cup almond milk (I love the brand Califia Farms)
My Favorite Protein Shake:
- 2 scoops Orgain Protein Powder (I use chocolate or vanilla, depending on my mood)
- 1/2 banana or handful of frozen berries
- 1tbsp peanut, almond, sunflower or cashew butter
- 1 scoop collagen
- A handful of kale or spinach
- A sprinkle of cinnamon (optional)
- A few ice cubes
- Blend up and drink!
