Fall has arrived! Well, sort of. It’s still mid 80s and humid here in Charleston. Decorating our front porch for fall is one of my favorite things to do. While I’m waiting on the last few items to arrive before I share our porch, I wanted to share the planters by our front door. We have two large pots on either side of the door and filling them with pretty blooms is the perfect way to add some new vibes and color to our home.
When I shop for flowers I always go to a few nurseries in the area to see what they have, how the flowers look and compare pricing. I like using something that’s a little bit large and tall in the back of the pot, then plants that are shorter in the middle and an ivy or something that will hang over the pot in the front.
Here’s what I ended up with:
Crotons are very popular in the fall and were perfect for this arrangement. I put them in the back since they’re tall. Then I put two Peter III Hybrid Asters in a pretty purple, slightly in front of and on either side of the croton. A small ornamental pepper plant (I’m not sure if that’s the real name but they’re very popular in the fall and in tons of nurseries now!) in the center and two Pigeon White Kale in front of that. In the very front I planted Glacier English Ivy.
I just planted these a week ago but assuming I can keep them alive (fingers crossed) they should fill out nicely and the ivy will spread over the front of the pot which is such a pretty look!
I chose a few different plants for our railing planters, in this post!
