Who knew a fence could make me such a happy woman? Owning a home does weird things to you. When we visited the house (before making an offer), Mike and I decided there were a few things we wanted to take care of right away assuming we were to move in. On that list was paint the upstairs bedrooms and bathrooms, get a higher fence and look into new kitchen countertops. There was a little white picket fence enclosing the backyard but it was not tall enough for our 2 pups. Zalea would see a squirrel on the other side and be long gone. We wanted to feel completely comfortable with opening the back door and letting the dogs out to run around and play.
Let me tell you, a fence isn’t exactly a fun thing to spend money on and we had to get a certain type according to the neighborhood HOA guidelines. After several calls and estimates (which were done while we were still living in CT) I found an amazing company, Charleston Fence. And their logo includes a pineapple so clearly I was extra thrilled 🙂
We went from this:
To this:
MUCH better. They took the old fence down and put the new up in 2 days! We’re happy we went with Charleston green as a color instead of white and the best part is we can let the dogs out without having to worry about them hopping the fence! I highly reco this company if you’re in the area and need a new fence they were so great to deal with.
After this was completed we decided to look into changing out the kitchen countertops. It was something we knew we wanted to do early on and since our downstairs is very open concept it would change the entire look of the space. Plus, the brown granite was not helping me achieve the all white/ gold/ navy blue color scheme I was going for, ya know?!
Picking out the stone was pretty easy– we knew we wanted white with some subtle gray veins. As much as I love carrara marble I’ve heard it’s really hard to keep clean and if you spill something (like red wine which is a frequent visitor in our home) you’re kinda screwed. Plus it’s got a heftier price tag than quartz. We looked at quite a few different slabs but ended up loving a quartz called calacatta santorini.
The next step was much easier than we thought it’d be. We had some concerns that ripping the granite out would ruin the bottom layer of the backsplash or even the cabinets underneath but there were zero issues! We worked with someone who was really amazing, he had no problem taking the old granite out– they didn’t even have to break it. I actually sold it to someone else who will put it in their kitchen! They then put the quartz right in– all of this only took 2 hours. We were shocked and I told Mike I was going to sleep on the center island I loved it so much 🙂
Here’s the granite:
And the new quartz:
We are obsessed with the new countertops and will also change out the lighting (to gold or white) and the cabinet + drawer handles (gold) within the next few months!
You may also notice we changed the faucet too. I’ve been dreaming about this Delta Trinsic Touch2O Fauce in champagne for probably almost a year. It is ridiculously gorgeous (yes I think a sink faucet is beautiful, I told you owning a home does weird things to you).
I mean come on, see what I mean?!  😉
Xoxo,
