Somehow February is over already and I’ve got another reading list ready for you! I didn’t read as much as I had wanted to last month, bummer. There are so many awesome books out there right now (or at least I’ve heard they’re awesome!) and my wish list is growing. In March I’m going to make more of an effort to sit down with a cup of tea, or maybe a glass of rosé depending on the weather, and read!
See below for my February reads and what’s on the list for March. You can go back and check out last month’s list too, there are some good ones on there! Also, please comment and tell me what you’re reading, I love hearing your suggestions!
Room by Emma Donoghue
Rating: 4/5
I really enjoyed this book! I had heard from a few people that is was good but disturbing. I understand where they were coming from but I didn’t feel all too disturbed. It just sucked me in and I wanted to know what was going to happen. It’s also a movie so I’m excited to watch it!
Room is told in the voice of a 5 year old boy named Jack, who lives in a small room with his mother. To Jack, this room is all that exists in the world. To his mother, it’s a prison where they’re being held by Old Nick who kidnapped her seven years ago. She realizes this is no way for a boy to live and comes up with a daring escape plan that requires Jack to be very brave. However she is unprepared for what will happen if the plan actually works, and how she will introduce the entire world to a boy who never knew it existed.
Small Great Things by Jodi Picoult
Rating: 2/5
Even the thought of writing a synopsis for this book stresses me out. I’ll start off by saying I listened to this on audio when it first came out. It was a tough one to get through, and I love Jodi Picoult! My neighborhood book club chose this as our February read so I thought I’d just listen to it again to refresh my memory. I got through about a half hour and decided it wasn’t worth my time. I will say I really did like one of the main characters, Ruth, and that’s probably what kept me listening the first time around. I just couldn’t relate to some of the other characters and felt it was a little drawn out.
Super quick synopsis: Ruth is an African American labor and delivery nurse and is asked to not care for a newborn baby whose parents are white supremacists. When she is on duty the baby goes into cardiac arrest and Ruth is left with a difficult decision, should she disobey the orders to not touch the baby so she can try to save its life? So she hesitates before performing CPR and is then charged with a serious crime.
Secrets of the Millionaire Mind by T. Harv Eker
Rating: 5/5
Ok, I feel a little guilty rating this book because I haven’t finished it yet, but I’m almost done I swear! This is one that I read right when I wake up (after making my tea) for 15-20 minutes. However sometimes I end up doing other things and don’t partake in my morning reading ritual, which is why I haven’t finished yet. Mike read this book first and told me I had to read it too. At first I thought it was going to be one of those books you roll your eyes at that was going to tell me I need to meditate in order to get rich. I was very wrong. It’s good, relatable, very interesting and has certainly opened my eyes to where my mind is currently at and where it needs to be, financially.
We all have a financial blueprint ingrained in our subconscious minds and it is this blueprint that will determine our financial lives. If your blueprint isn’t set for financial success, you won’t make a lot of money. Or if you do you’ll somehow lose it. Part 1 explains how your money blueprint works and Part 2 is 17 “Wealth Files” that describe how wealthy people think and act vs. middle-class and poor people. I highly recommend this one!
What I want to read next:
Can You Keep a Secret by Sophie Kinsella – This is my neighborhood book club’s choice for March. I listened to it a while back and remember cracking up most of the time, I’m excited to read it again!
All the Light We Cannot See by Anthony Doerr – Just bought this one, I’ve heard so many great reviews
The Woman in the Window by A.J. Finn – I feel like this book is everywhere right now, can’t wait to get my hands on it
Eleanor Oliphant Is Completely Fine by Gail Honeyman – This is one from last month’s wish list that I really want to get to. I have it on audio and just need to start listening!
Please comment below and let me know what you’re reading! And you can find last month’s reads here if you missed them!
