One of the things Charleston is known for is awesome restaurants. There are so many to choose from but I feel I’ve gotten pretty good at making recommendations, if I do say so myself. So here are some of our favorite spots to go, and yes they have gluten free options!
High Cotton
This one has a special place in my heart because it’s where we had our rehearsal dinner. It’s a steak house and the service is SO good. They’re amazing at catering to my gluten free needs and the restaurant is in a great location right in the heart of downtown Charleston.
167 Raw
If you like raw seafood you do not want to miss out on this place! There’s always a line out the door so get there early if you can and just know you’re going to have to wait a bit. But it’s worth it. It’s super small inside with just a few tables and a bar. I love the oysters, ceviche and and guacamole. Mike loves the ahi poke and the lobster roll.
Huriyali
This cute spot is on a side street off of North King St. We’ve gone for breakfast, lunch and to grab an acai bowl. They have gluten free and dairy free options and we like sitting outside in their little garden. If you’re looking for a quick but healthy bite this is perfect!
The Darling
Another oyster bar but more of a restaurant than 167 Raw (there’s plenty of tables here, but you’ll still need a reservation). I always get oysters and the lobster roll that also has king crab, they put it in a lettuce wrap for me. There are all sorts of seafood options and fry baskets. This place is always packed and for good reason!
Edmund’s Oast
My all time favorite for a burger, because of the bun. It’s the best gluten free bun I’ve ever had. Our server told me that people who don’t have a gluten sensitivity will even order the GF bun because it’s that good. We’ve been here many times and I’ve gotten the burger every single time, it’s just so good. They also have a really awesome outdoor patio and a ton of beer if you’re into that!
Minero
Casual mexican that is delish. We often go here for lunch and get chips/guacamole and tacos. Their margaritas are good too! Located on East Bay Street so super easy to get to if you’re walking around downtown.
